Best. Quote. Ever. I won't pretend that I'm not biased. But I'm not the only one who thinks that declaring the immunity idol is in your crotch is a memorable statement. Check out this excerpt of a review on TV Fanatic (click HERE to read the full article)...

Life gets even better for Kim when she takes the initiative no one else has somehow and finds the other hidden immunity idol. Before looking at the ramifications of such a find, let’s review the greatest quote to date in the season so far and possibly one of the top 10 Survivor quotes ever:

I just found the hidden immunity idol. It’s in my crotch.

Priceless. I did think to myself when she found it ‘where is she going to put it?’ and came up with the same answer; her crotch. She just didn’t seem like the kind of person who stuffed. Her bra or her jock, it would seem. Too bad CBS didn’t show it. I wonder if she looked like Lois Einhorn from Ace Ventura: Pet Detective?

Back to the ramifications of such a find. Yeah, we all know the obvious benefits by now, who cares. What does matter is that the find inadvertently pushed Kim and Chelsea even closer together when Kim chose to reveal the idol to Chelsea. The duo soon realized that they could be a power pair and strategized accordingly.

Finally! I’ve been pushing for these two (and many previous potential pairs) to realize the power of a tight pair. Not only might we finally see the first power duo since Rob and Ambuh, but they’re even a logical pairing. They’re both smart, cute, athletic and normal. Working together makes them the large favorite to win the game.

I couldn't agree more. And now let's discuss a little "Crotch Idol 101".

First things first...you wake up and think to yourself, "Today's the day I'm going to find a hidden immunity idol." (That step alone elevates you to bad ass status). So off you go in search of treasure...

You check the obvious places first...

Occasionally looking over your shoulder to make sure you aren't being tailed...

And just when you think you may never find it, you say a little prayer and...VOILA! The idol is yours...

Elation follows...

As does the burning question in every viewers mind..."Where is she going to hide that thing?!" Easy. Her crotch of course...

You can't wait to share the good news with your Island buddy, "I found the idol! It's in my crotch!" Epic.

She conveys the perfect reaction of shock and awe and of course helps you hide that thing (even though it has been...well...in your crotch)...

And then you have a delightful little scheming session...

Which is when it hits you "THIS IS AWESOME!"

Six and a Half

I can't let this day go by without wishing my sweet little Carter a very merry "half" birthday! She is exactly six and a half today...

At the risk of sounding boringly redundant I must say I CANNOT BELIEVE IT! Sometimes I look back at her in my rear view mirror as we toodle around town and think where did my baby go??

She has brought so much joy to each and every one of the past 2,372.5 days. I feel like the least I can do is try to be the best Mama I can to her. She is sunshine inside and out and the sweetest big sister. Nothing melts my heart like seeing she and Emme together (and I do mean the moments where they are getting along and not trying to kill one another)...

Happy "Half" Birthday sweet Carter! I absolutely, POSITIVELY, forbid you to turn 7!! And that's an order! XOXO and much love, Your Mama

Wednesday! (Episode 5)

I've been a little "absent" from the blogging world this past week. I make no excuses. I've been busy having some spring break fun with two of my favorite little people...

Today lunch with our favorite Survivor was on the agenda. Apparently we aren't the only ones who wanted to have lunch with her. Jeff had dropped by the store and brought her favorite Taco Cabana (I know he's happily married and all but I'm beginning to think he may have a little crush on Kim)...

He said things may get a little crazy tonight but not to worry, he's TEAM KIM all the way (he was even wearing his t-shirt to prove it)...

Those two have such a sweet relationship. He was a little thirsty so of course Kim gave him a sip of her tea...

I mean seriously. You can't blame him for having a little schoolyard crush on this chick...

Can't wait for tonight...

Rude Dude

Based on the comments from our friends and family alone via social media last night I'm thinking this morning Colton may very well be waking up as the most hated man in America...

It would appear Kim my have called the wrong dude rude. I'm not sure if it's possible for one man to single handedly offend almost every demographic in America but at this phase in the game Colton has a pretty good shot. And as if the blatant prejudices he is spewing aren't enough...MY GOSH....the EYE ROLLING. Bill Cosby comes to mind with one of my all time favorite eye rolling quotes,

"You think you think you can roll your eyes at me? I'll roll that little head of yours down on the floor!"

Yes. Colton could use a good "head rolling on the floor" moment if you ask me. And that's about enough about Colton.

The good news is his "reign" prompted the men to make what I can only presume will go down as the stupidest move in Survivor history. There have been several that top the list over the years but I'm pretty sure this one takes the cake. Sometimes it looks like you've just got to sit back, relax and enjoy the immunity idol that a group of dumb boys hand to you on a silver platter.

For members of Team Kim last night was a good one. She ate rubbery snail, called Jonas a "Rude Dude" and obliterated a panel in the challenge (complete with a one eye closed aiming technique that looked pretty darn legit)...

The new game should be counting how many time Jeff Probst says "obliterated" in a challenge. It was impressive (Kim demonstrating obliterated)...

No matter how you slice it not going to tribal council and having to vote someone out is NOT GOING TO TRIBAL COUNCIL AND HAVING TO VOTE SOMEONE OUT! It was a good night. A good night made better because we got to hang out and watch with our favorite mom and dad (ok so they're our only mom and dad but they are still our favorite). Every week "Coach" Spradlin has been weighing in on the episode for the Temple Daily Telegram (I think he may be the most interviewed "non" contestant in the history of the game...he's kind of a big deal in Temple)...

And if you ever underestimate Kim's claim's of "weirdness"...don't. She really is weird (as in she's always making people do things like take their photo under a leopard scarf) weird.

Officially checking watch Survivor with a Survivor off my bucket list (Dear Kim, You don't have to get me anything for Christmas ever again. Really. This is so much fun).

I'm happy to report that not only did Kim spend quite a bit of time with a sling in my backyard...

She was also a natural at hitting the bullseye...

We Heart Nonna

We were so excited Friday when Nonna came for a visit! It was a beautiful day so we grabbed some cupcakes and headed to one of our favorite parks...

We spent the better part of two hours playing in the sunshine. My kind of Friday afternoon...

The girls were so happy to spend some time with Nonna...

Unfortunately the temperatures dropped overnight and Saturday morning we had to bundle up for Carter's first soccer game. The Thundering Herd will definitely be a force to be reckoned with this year (thanks Brenda for all the great photos)...

Carter is loving being on a team with quite a few girls from school and their sweet teacher Ms. Richter came to watch them play...

I love being a soccer mom. It's definitely all it's cracked up to be and more...

After the game Carter and Nonna headed out for a little date just the two of them (Carter was thrilled)...

And speaking of date's, Nate and I got one as well! Nonna hung with the girls and we took advantage (and I do mean advantage as in I think Donna may have worried we had run off to Mexico) of the free babysitting...

We spent the afternoon and evening with a couple of our favorite peeps...

After spending the week alone while Nate was in Hawaii for work (rough life I know) it was great to have such an A+ kind of weekend. Happy Tuesday (aka day before Survivor)!

My Little Buttercup

She's about the sweetest thing you've ever met. She says "yes ma'm", "thank you very much" and "go to the store and get some" about 100 times a day. She sings, she dances and she's my favorite daily errand running until her sister gets home buddy. She's my little buttercup and she has the sweetest smile...

She can also be quite a little toot. So the other morning after I put her in her crib for a time out imagine my surprise when less than a minute later she came waltzing into the kitchen. Yep, looks like we have a little escape artist. So yesterday I lowered her mattress to try to keep her contained just a little longer...

She busied herself with a book...

She's also been spending a lot of time on one of her new favorite activities, dress up. She usually opts for princess dresses and crowns but today she found Carter's leotard and soccer shoes and insisted upon wearing them (I think it's safe to say that right now when Emme grows up she wants to be just like Carter)...

We also ran a few errands this morning. Every time we park somewhere she say's, "Emme come too Mommy?!" And I swear I've never left her in the car so I don't where she got the idea that she wouldn't be coming with me! We had a few routine stops and our last one was the post office which just so happens to be next door to Central Market. Someday when I'm rich I'm gonna' do my weekly grocery shopping there, but until then I'll settle for an occasional stop when I just need a "few things". I stroll slowly so that I can enjoy the ambiance. Today I decided to treat myself and splurged on a hanging basket full of succulents (it rode home underneath Emme's happy feet)...

She insisted we get the one with the "purple flower" and I obliged her . I think sometimes buying something "just because" makes life a better place...

That and saltine crackers...

For some reason this week I have felt a little more aware of the sweet little everyday moments. Like when Emme dances to the "gumdrop song"...

Sometimes the moments seem to fly by and when I glance back I feel this slightly panicky "I don't want to forget this" thing creeping up. Truth be told I think that's why blogging resonates with me. So in the spirit of remembering here's a few things that I have "forgotten" to post about lately.

The weather seems to be on a bit of a roller coaster lately. Cold or Hot? It's having hard time making up it's mind. We've been rolling with the punches and on one of our more recent chilly afternoons we bundled up for a walk...

I love being out and about with my girls. I'm not going to pretend that I get the "racecart" every time we go to the grocery store (I would lose my mind). But maybe that means when I give in it makes it all the more special...

Special is one of those words that I hope my girls will use when they look back at their childhood. Special as in "we made homemade Valentine's"...

Or "my mom took me for an after school snack just the two us"...

Or special as in "I remember that one time she went on my class field trip and drew a worm on my lunch sack (who knows maybe it will be the little things they'll remember?)...

Little things like snuggling after an unexpected Saturday afternoon nap...

Sometimes it's good to look at all the "little" moments and remember that they can add up to one great BIG happy life. I'm so grateful for that. For good friends (we recently spent the evening celebrating Bryan and his birthday)...

For Chik-Fil-A ice cream...

For soccer stars in the making...

For the unexpected makeover I got during the Super Bowl that made me feel like a million bucks...

I'm grateful for all of it. Because even though sometimes it doesn't seem like there is anything monumental going on from day to day it all adds up to some pretty great stuff. And leaves me feeling...well...special.

Watching last night's episode was a blast! Carter gripped my hand tightly and we both held our breath for the better part of the immunity challenge. Those girls are awesome and finally smoked the boy's (not once but TWICE)!

Kudos to the girls for sticking it out through what looked to be and I quote Kim, a "Horrendous" night. I also love the fact that come morning there was no shame in putting their charm to good use and getting warm at the guys fire. You know what else there is no shame in? Beating the guy's twice. Did I mention that already? Oops. My bad.

I think everyone loves a good underdog story (think David and Goliath or one of my fav's Rudy). There is something about the Salani tribe that just makes you want to pull for them. I might be wrong but I think I even saw a few of the guys on last nights episode smiling when the girls won. It was pretty darn fun to see them pull together for a "W".

So the boys headed to Tribal Council for the very first time. Most of them were squirming in their seats but Bill appeared to have found some kind of happy pill out there in the jungle, that boy was trippin'! Queen Colton and his band of misfits get a smiley face in my book for voting out Matt. Good Riddance. I'm not sure I could have handled much more of the ego...it's just too big for the small screen! Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, hey, hey heeeeyyyyy, gooooodbye...

Last night we celebrated Matt's departure by demonstrating the many ways you can wear a buff...

Although he's also a BIG fan of the Balaclava...

He mentioned she's the most beautiful contestant they've ever had on the show. Gosh Jeff, that's such a coincidence I totally agree (seriously no makeup and island grime can't hide this girls good looks put her on the cover of National Geographic already)!!

The Farm

While the rest of our fam had a fun night out at the rodeo last week Emme was busy spending some quality time with Roxi and Pops. She went for a visit all by herself for the very first time...

I think it's safe to say she was sufficiently spoiled with things like chocolate pudding...

By Saturday we were all very excited at the thought of being reunited with our little bug! We met in Bastrop at a charming little farm where my second cousin Renee lives with her beautiful family. We were gathering to celebrate sweet new baby Ella...

I was pretty darn happy to see my own sweet baby...

The kiddos loved seeing all the farm animals but I think it's safe to say the chickens stole the show...

Carter took a turn holding one...

At first she wasn't a big fan...

But after a little while she warmed up to the idea...

And was even ready to get a lesson in "how to catch a chicken" from Jaden who was a pro...

First you sneak up on them from behind while their eating...

Then when they least expect it you grab em' by the tail (not to worry no chickens were harmed in the writing of this blog post)...

They had the best time! Emme on the other hand was not quite sure what to think about this chicken business...

It was a lovely Saturday...

Little Bitty

Last night we headed out to the Rodeo. It was our second time in the past couple of weeks but we were excited to have our favorite little bitty cowgirl in tow (hanging in the back seat with Kim and Katie)...

She couldn't wait to hit the rides and jumped on the Full Tilt with Aunt Kimmi...

We were making the rounds and Carter was having a blast. She and Aunt Kim also rode the Crazy Mouse...

And then Kim insisted Nate and I ride it with her. She said we would love it. Right. Let's just say Carter did not get her love of thrilling rides from her mother (here I am moments before not realizing how much I was about to hate this ride)...

Luckily her dad is her partner in crime. They are two peas in a pod (literally)...

Off we went. And while there are so many things wrong with this photo, like the fact I have a death grip on my SIX year old's hand not to mention it is her second time on this ride and she is actually posing for the camera, I'm still sharing it. Why? Because I apparently have no shame...

Dear Kim, I hate you for telling me I would be glad I went on the Crazy Mouse. That's why I'm posting these pictures of you looking stupid in Carter's red cowgirl hat. You're welcome...

After the trauma was over we headed down the midway...

And got sucked into a game of darts by this irresistibly jolly fellow. He hoisted Carter up and promised us he'd make her a winner...

He whispered the tricks of the trade in her ear...

And also whispered a little something like this to Aunt Kim, "Give me $10 and watch what I can do!" Like a good Aunt she forked over the cash and he didn't disappoint. Carter threw darts as we all cheered her on...

And our new friend kept up his end of the bargain and made her a winner (she named her new dog Browns Eye, yes Browns is plural and don't ask her to change it!)...

Dear Kim, I forgive you for the whole Crazy Mouse thing. You are the best Aunt ever and I love you for making Carter feel like the most special kid on earth (but I'm still posting those pictures of you looking dumb in the hat)...

We had the best time and it's moments like these where the memories made far outweigh the money spent...

Oh and just in case you were wondering we didn't forget Emme! She was spending a little time getting spoiled at Roxi and Pops house (more on that later).

We headed inside to find our seats and after climbing to the top of the arena (literally) we settled in to watch the rodeo. Carter thought every horse that came out was the most beautiful one she had ever seen. We may have been sitting in the "cheap seats" but I felt like a million bucks with this girl next to me...

We were surrounded by good friends...

And the night kept getting better as Alan Jackson took the stage and sang a lot of his greatest hits like Five O'Clock Somewhere, Chatahootchie, Remember When and Little Bitty...

By the end of the night we had one very tired little cowgirl...

Definitely one for the memory books. Happy Friday Y'all!

The Colton Effect

So I'm thinking that when Jeff asked Kim what talents she could be contributing to the tribe last night she should have said multi-tasking. I don't know many girls that can make eating a piece of boiled bread fruit look good while simultaneously telling Colton being BFF's with the girls tribe just isn't an option (I think her exact words were dumb, dumb, dumb)...

It's actually a little something Kim likes to call "The Colton Effect" (click on the photo to hear all about it)...

This weeks episode was a little rough. I'm not gonna' lie I'm ready for the girls to kick some butt! The guys are getting just a little too big for their britches if you ask me. I'm sure their camp is nice and all but for goodness sake a tree swing? I think someone needs to take them down a few notches and I sure am hoping the girls can pull it together and get the job done.

Regardless of how things shake out when it comes to "Women Power" I think Kim is establishing herself as a smart player and I'm loving it!

Oh and the award for freakiest night shot goes toooooooooo....

Long Weekend

I love a good long weekend. Around here it means sleeping in (thanks Nate) and Sunday morning cinnamon rolls (again Nate gets the credit for that one). It means naps on the living room floor...

And getting a few things done around the house (as in hanging up these adorable cross stitch hand prints, the sweetest gift from Nonna, I'm so in love with them. A million thank you's Donna they are priceless)...

I also squeezed in a trip by myself to the grocery store which oddly enough was highly enjoyable, dare I even say fun?! Saturday night brought definite fun with friends and a game of Balderdash around our dining room table (I'm pretty sure I caught Kim cheating in this photo)...

But hands down the highlight of our weekend was this morning when Nate set out to conquer setting up a new trampoline for the girls. With plans in his pocket...

And two very eager assistants...

(who were only slightly distracted by the occasional urge to race around the "track")...

He spent the better part of the morning assembling and exercising a lot more patience than I ever could. I'm pretty sure the smiles on their faces were all the thanks he needed...

They bounced the afternoon away and Carter was thrilled with the "action shots" we captured on my iphone...

It was the definition of a sunshine day...

As I rocked Emerson tonight she got heavy in my arms and I knew she was drifting off to sleep more quickly than usual (non-stop jumping will do that to a two year old). As I gently laid her into her crib her eyes fluttered open and she groggily said, "I bounce so high"...and I think my heart melted right then and there. I love my girls and I love my husband and I love the way he loves them...

Thanks for all your hard work today babe...I'm pretty sure Emme's sweet dreams have her bouncing the night away too.

Cupid the Cowboy

We spent our Valentine's evening having dinner with a couple of cutie pie's...

Heart shaped grilled cheese makes your average sandwich just a little more fun...

And sweet cards from their daddy who always goes above and beyond when it comes to making the girls around here feel special...

Nate and I then headed out, we had a date with Cupid at the Rodeo...

We also got to hang out with some of our favorite people...

I was completely enamored with our front row seats (we were so close you had to watch out for flying dirt or things that look like dirt if you catch my drift)...

We're used to sitting in the "cheap seats" so this was quite a treat!

I also decided to treat myself to one of my favorite things. I figure busting my rear at kick boxing twice a week earns me the occasional splurge...

Thank you so much Linda and Randy for the perfect way to spend our Valentine's Day! We had a blast! (and thanks for letting me borrow your boots Kimmi, I felt pretty snazzy)...

Ambiance

Seriously. Who doesn't love a little campfire ambiance? Last night we created a little ambiance of our own and kicked this thing off with a bang! Cayce and I spent the day getting things ready...

I'm not sure there could have been a better place to host Kim's premiere. The Drafthouse was in a word...Awesome!

Cayce and I got there a little early to set things up before all the fans (aka friends and family) arrived...

Of course it wouldn't have been a party without Jeff Probst...

It was a close call though. As of about 3:45 yesterday afternoon Jeff was stuck in the back of a UPS truck somewhere in San Antonio. To make a long story short Cayce used her super sleuth skills and tracked down the cell phone number of the driver (can you say future CIA agent??). We caught up with him in the parking lot of the McNay, threw Jeff in the car and headed straight for the party! He was so happy to get out of his box and join the fun...

Jeff wasn't the only one who was ready to party...

I think it's safe to say we were beyond excited that it was finally here!

Carter won the award for smallest fan! She was so excited that we let her come...

Aunt Kim had promised they could sit next to each other and she didn't disappoint...

She ate too much popcorn, watched intently and stayed up way past her bedtime. By the end of the night she was one very tired little girl...

It was a night to remember. We packed the house (there were just a few empty seats) and hooped and hollered as Kim made her debut (It's not everyday that you get to see your sister on the BIG screen)...

I thought the episode was great. In my opinion Kim looked gorgeous (I know I'm biased but it's totally true)! She's also not above trying to get a little fire from some boys in her underwear. It's all in the name of ambiance people. Loved Chelsea and the fact that she caught not one but TWO chickens. Oh, and not only did she catch them...she KEPT them. I know I wouldn't be messin' with the country girl!! I felt so bad for Courtney. She was adorable and that was such a rough way to go. She's one tough chick!! The men...well let's just put it this way, I'd hate for them to meet John Wayne in a dark alley! Except for Colton...while John Wayne taught them a thing or two about chivalry he'd be hanging at the Country Club sippin' iced tea! Oh, and Matt...do you think you could do us all a favor and put your legs together during confessional?? If it's not too much trouble we'd really appreciate it!

We had so much fun watching and I'm already looking forward to next Wednesday. I'm so glad I get to be President of this girls fan club (the perks of being a big sister)...

Speaking of perks...breakfast at the Magnolia Pancake House the next morning is definitely another one...

“Survivor: One World” premieres 7 p.m. Wednesday on CBS, and Temple Wildcat football fans will likely tune in to root for Kimberly Spradlin, daughter of THS head football coach Mike Spradlin. Kimberly will be one of 18 contestants living together on an island in Samoa.

The contestants are divided into two tribes for a battle of the sexes. Kimberly is in the Salani tribe.

The San Antonio resident said in a phone interview earlier this week that she has always been obsessed with the show. A little over a year ago she was watching an episode with her friends and decided on a lark to make an audition video. Her iPhone recording landed her a callback and months of anxious anticipation. It was early summer when she finally received the call to pack up; a week later Kimberly was on a plane.

“I was kind of shocked, to be honest,” she said. “I was so fired up. The whole thing was surreal.”

Kimberly, 29, owns two bridal boutiques, one in San Antonio and the other in Austin. She comes from a family of competitors – her sister, Beth, was an athlete in college and her brother, Clint, is a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps – and has reveled in her own share of victory.

“Kim has a great competitor’s spirit,” said coach Spradlin in an email earlier this week. “I mean she hates to lose at anything she does … I mean HATES it.”

In high school, her volleyball team won a state championship. The Spradlin clan moved around a lot in those years and Kimberly eventually graduated from Western High School in Round Rock. Her athleticism certainly will be to Kimberly’s advantage during the course challenges. But it’s her experience as a white water rapids guide that makes her the ultimate survivor.

“Physically, I’m not afraid of anything,” she said.

Kimberly spent some time as a white water rapids guide in Colorado, which included going on overnight excursions. You know, the type of thing where one would learn survival tips.

Last year, after she got the call back, Kimberly began some light training – in her sister’s backyard.

“I did everything I could think of that would get me prepared. I learned how to shoot a bow and arrow and a slingshot. I threw grappling hooks at things,” she said. “My sister and her husband and my nieces would all come hang out while I shot arrows at the tree.”

Kimberly’s brother-in-law, is a naval officer, showed her a few tricks, as well. But it mostly came down to physical training and basic acts of survival, such as starting a fire.

Meanwhile, her parents didn’t really believe she was going to be on the show until she got on the plane.

“When she told me she would be going to audition for it, I just figured it was a real long shot. Kind of like winning the lottery,” said coach Spradlin, who along with his wife had never seen the show before. “Last fall we watched every episode, just so we would have an idea what to expect. I have to admit, after a couple of episodes I kind of got into it!”

“Survivor: One World” was filmed over the summer, all except for the live finale where the winner will be announced. Kim is back in San Antonio and excited to see the competition from the other side.

“Survivor” is comprised of three major elements of intrigue: survival in the elements, competing in complex obstacle challenges and voting off the competition. Kimberly doesn’t flinch at the first two. The politics involved with voting, though, was the hardest element of the show to prepare for.

“I think the one of the best things I had going for me … was making connections with people,” said Kimberly. “I can be friends with anyone and find the value in each person and find a way to connect with them. I was just hoping that would get me far enough.”

In a preview for the upcoming season, “Survivor” host Jeff Probst named Kimberly as one of his favorites to go far in the game.

“Kim is someone I think everyone is gonna want to root for. She’s the all-American woman. … She could walk away with the money,” he said.

In her cast interview, which was tapped before the competition, Kimberly said she would love to win the money, but was more interested in coming out and making a good run at the game.

Rite of Passage

I went in to check on my sweet little Emerson last night. She had gone to bed with a low grade fever and a few hours later was burning up. I swept her up hoping to get a little Tylenol down her without disturbing her sleep. What happened next is in my opinion a rite of passage for all Mama's.
I'll spare you the gory details but it involved the contents of her stomach getting to know lots of various surfaces in our home. If anyone has a good suggestion on how to handle a toddler with a stomach bug without having to do at least 3 loads of laundry I'm all ears. Sick babies make me sad...

It was a long night and of course Nate is out of town (because these little bugs just seem to know when you're home alone). I have to admit I gave myself a couple of pep talks to make it through. It may not be the competition I have been accustomed to in my past life as an athlete but when you're covered in puke, have a crying baby standing naked in the bath and Cinderella turned into a pumpkin about two hours ago you have no choice but to compete. And you know what we both survived...

We always do. Because deep down there is something in us that knows when the going gets tough the tough get going! Sometimes I think the lesson I value most after a night like the one we just had is how much it makes me appreciate the "normal" ones. The ones I sometimes complain about because Carter wakes me up to pee three different times or Emerson loses her pacifier and wants to be rocked more than once. I'll take normal over puke any day of the week.

I still have a sick little girl but I'm hoping the worst is behind us for this go round...

On the mend with ice chips...

To all the Mama's who've had a night spent snuggling feverish babies and cleaning up messes I salute you. It's a tough job but somebody's gotta' do it!

Barn Dance

Friday Carter donned her best western wear and headed to school for their annual barn dance...

She and her classmates had been working for weeks on memorizing dances to perform...

She was the cutest little cowgirl I ever did see...

After a few songs it was time for the parents to get in on the action...

Carter had double the fun because Aunt Kim had surprised her by coming to watch too. You should have seen her face light up when she saw her...

It was pretty darn cute to see her whole class had gone country for the day...

One thing is for sure, this little cowgirl has stolen my heart...

The Magic Time Machine

This post is not about traveling back in time but is quite literally about our birthday visit to The Magic Time Machine (as in the restaurant). Kim had been as a child and it must have made a lasting impression because she has been asking to go back ever since.

Like the good men they are Nate and Bryan surprised us with dinner at this very "magical" place. Ok...so maybe it isn't exactly magical. Maybe it leans a little more toward the outdated, slightly dirty, you sort of feel like you're in a creepy dream side. But it was incredibly memorable and something I don't think we will forget! We kicked things off with some bubbly potion...

We were waited on by the charming Poison Ivy...

And after a few drinks...

We paid a visit to the Salad Car (I warned you it was cheesy)...

The rest of the meal was a bit of a blur and may or may not have involved a really bad rendition of "I need you Baby" by half the restaurant (which means about 10 people). I have not laughed that hard in a very long time. It was an epic evening...

Oh and I can't leave out frog. Let me just say that when my sister claims to be a little weird it's not just an act. I can totally prove it. It started when Bryan won her this frog...

Which she promptly decided to call her baby...

Things went downhill from there...

To know her is to love her for making you participate in all of her antics...

Our evening was the perfect way to end what had been a unexpectedly sweet day. I didn't really think my birthday would feel like a big deal this year...but I was wrong. It was one of my best yet. Nate and the girls surprised me bright and early with something I didn't even know he knew I wanted. Wrist meet Mr. Kors...

And lunch with some of the sweetest women you have ever met literally blessed my heart. I feel so incredibly loved through the community of people we have found to share life with here. I felt like I could have cried several times sitting there at the lunch table just thinking about how much each of the people I was surrounded by means to me. After all the moving we have done it is the best gift ever to have found such amazing friends (clockwise: Sarah, Lori (not pictured), Linda, Kim, Cayce, Anne Marie, Me, Nicki, and Kelley)...

So this birthday which officially pushes me into my actual 30's was one of the best yet. As I was thinking the other day I realized that I have so often found myself looking forward to something in the future or maybe even looking back at the way things used to be. Right not I am so very happy to be exactly where I am at. It is one of my favorite places I've been. Also so happy to get to share turning another year older with this girl (it literally seems to blow peoples minds that we have the same birthday!)...

What Animal Are You?

My sister's secret talent is not such a secret anymore. During one of her interviews for Survivor she spilled the beans that she has a knack for pointing out what animal people look like. To make it even more of a skill she can usually do it within just a few minutes of meeting you!

She's done it for as long as I can remember and in case you are wondering I'm a mouse. Specifically (for any American Tail fans out there) I'm Feivel's Sister...

I know, I know, Christmas has come and gone. But I've decided not to stick the saying on the shelf until the holidays roll around again next year. Even with all the fancy tinsel and twinkling lights packed away I'm convinced there is still plenty of wonderful to be found in everyday life. Even if there is a whole box of Cheerios on my living room floor...

She was as guilty as the day is long...

I was reminded recently that there is power in simply saying, "Today is going to be a really good day". It's true we get to choose. It may not feel like there is a whole lot to look forward to or get geared up for but if your outlook is bright you might just find the everyday routine holds plenty of things to get excited about. Sisters hugging...

Birthday dogs barking all. the. live. long. day...

Newly turned two year olds exercising their "independence"...

And occasionally something a little more fancy like a date to the movies with my favorite 6 1/2 year old (Beauty and the Beast 3D)...

And then there was today. We spent all day at home. We needed it badly. So with toys littering every square inch of our floor the four of us spent time just being together. Emme found a photo of she and Carter from when she was a baby and requested a re-enactment...

Carter wrote an adorable story called The Bee that I hope I will keep forever and ever...

She also penned a letter to Taylor and signed it "your fan" be still my heart (if only I could get this to her I just know she'd love it as much as I do)...

They soaked up an afternoon with their daddy who had been away all week...

To be honest it was my favorite kind of Saturday (did I mention we all took a nap?)...

Nothing out of the ordinary but still plenty of wonderful. Happy Weekending!

Turning Two

It's no secret that Emme loves Elmo. As her second birthday celebration approached I knew that furry little monster would be a part of the festivities!

We had her party at one of our favorite places The Kiddie Park with lots of our favorite people. I was so touched by my sweet little Carter who came early, focused, worked hard and helped me set everything up. She is such a wonderful big sis...

We managed to get everything taped down just in the nick of time (it was a little windy out)...

And I was tickled pink with Emerson's Elmo cake...

Our guest started to arrive and we got the party started!

It means so much when sweet family and friends come together to celebrate your little people...

I think birthday's are such a good reminder to take a deep breath and remember what is really important...

And for making wishes...

And for eating cake (of course)...

Birthdays are good for best friends...

(Nate swore he didn't realize his shirt matched Emme's leggings but I think he was fibbing! That guy speaks my love language...it's called color coordination!)

(and speaking of love languages my sister surprised me by taking off work so she could come...now that is my love language...as in it totally made me cry.)

Birthdays are also very good for turning two (which only happens once in a lifetime)...

A BIG thanks to everyone who celebrated with us and made this day such a happy memory! It was one of those "Best DAY Ever" kind of days for sure.

Emme's Birthday

We all get a big kick out of the way Emerson talks these days. It's all "Emme this" and "Emme that" it's all third person all the time. But Thursday really was Emme's day. Her birthday which we celebrated with plenty of special and a lot of love. She actually had her first taste of birthday fun on Wednesday when she shared cupcakes with her Mother's Day Out class...

The next morning we treated her to a little breakfast serenade of "Happy Birthday to You". I love the sweet look she gets on her face when you sing to her...

Later that day she spent a little time on her new favorite activity, watching Aunt Kim's Survivor Video...

And of course hanging with her good buddy Elmo...

Later that night Kim and Bryan joined us for pizza and cake. Emme had been dyyyiiiiinnnnnggg to eat a piece of cake all afternoon so when it was finally time her smile said it all...

And I can't get enough of the look on her face when we sing....

Friday we had a little down time after all the celebrating and got to rest up for her party...

She's a Survivor

This is nuts with a capital N. I have to admit Wednesday was about as fun as it gets. To finally be able to tell friends and family or even the lady checking me out at the grocery store that my sister is going to be on SURVIVOR (ok so I'm kidding about the grocery store bit but don't put it past me!) was so stinkin' fun.

My first thought when I woke up yesterday was, "Yay, It's still true!" This whole thing would be SO exciting even if I had never watched an episode of the show. But the fact that I would consider myself a diehard fan pushes the whole thing to the "I'm like a kid at Christmas" phase of excitement. I mean how many people can say Jeff Probst thinks their sister is smart?! (Click here to see what else he had to say! I'm particularly fond of the, "she's a favorite to win" part!)

Sure I've had seasons that have been ho-hum or that I've even considered jumping ship after. But I always come back and for some reason this show has just become one of those can't miss things for me. Watching it is something that my sister and I have shared and to get to watch her now going through the whirlwind of actually being on it is a little surreal.

It's hard to believe that prior to Wednesday you could google Kim Spradlin and find your average facebook page or some old blurb about her from high school. All it takes now is "Kim Sp" and you can read more about her than you've ever dreamed! I realize this could be a problem because a.) obsessing over reading everything that is said about her could become a full time job and b.) there are some bitter betty's and bob's out there who somehow missed the "if you don't have something nice to say don't say anything at all" bit.

I realize everyone is entitled to their own opinion and of course mine will be in the semi biased "I think she's the most awesome person they've ever had on the show" category. And while my opinion may be a biased one here is something that is pure fact...my sister is real.

She's a real person that has been one of my favorite's for as long as I can remember. Kim has always been someone that people cannot help but love. She is magnetic, she is the life of the party, she is the person that lights up a room.

She is a real person that works hard for that gorgeous physique that everyone is going cuckoo for cocoa puffs over. There is a lot of sweat that goes into a six pack like that! Trust me I know. She took me under her wing as a workout buddy (something I will be forever grateful for) and 20 lbs. later I realize that being in shape at 30 does not come for free!

I guess what I'm trying to say is that for a lot of people my sister is about to become a picture on their screen or a person on their TV (craaaazy!). I'm sure it will be easy for them to love (or hate) her based on what they can learn in a short amount of time. For us its L-O-V-E all the way. Knowing her like we do it would be impossible not to!!

Birthdays are good for lots of things. Joy, Happiness, Celebration and (maybe one of my favorites as a mom) reflection. It's so easy as I move from day to day, week to week, month to month, etc. to miss the subtle changes that eventually result in tiny babies...

Who are not so tiny anymore...

My dear sweet Emerson is two today. Seven hundred and thirty beautiful days old. On this particular day I'm taking a moment to think back to the very first one. She was such a little bundle...

Just perfect for holding...

New found roles of "big" and "little" sister came naturally to my girls. Carter had been waiting quite a while for this moment...

So had I...

I was so grateful for you sweet girl. For the opportunity to get to be your Mama. Your smile could have melted my heart...

No matter how hard I try to catch you growing the days seem to fly by...

And suddenly here we are another year gone by...

Finally. F-I-N-A-L-L-Y!! Have you ever had a secret? Like a good one. Like one you really can't tell? I have.

I know I left y'all hanging after my last post. Let me start by clarifying a few things. First of all my BIG news has nothing to do with one of these...

(Although they're pretty darn cute)...

We're also not getting one of these...

Or putting one of these in our yard...

It's nothing you'd guess (not in a million years).

So here goes.

I'm sure most of you have heard of the show Survivor (I mean unless you live under a rock or something). Well, I've been a fan for as long as I can remember. I've never missed a season (except for the very first one which thankfully means I don't have visions of Richard Hatch in all his glory seared into my brain). I got hooked after Season 2 and can remember thinking I would love to be just like Elisabeth Filarski. I've had quite a few favorite castaways over the years...Stephanie, Boston Rob, and JD just to name a few. But I'm pretty sure I may have a new all time favorite after this next season airs. As a matter of fact I can guarantee it (look closely I'm pretty sure one of the cast looks vaguely familiar)...

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!! Can you believe it! I'm not sure when I've been this excited about something!

In just 4 short weeks the world will have a chance to get to know my beautiful sister a little better. I have no doubt they will see her for the warm, competitive, gorgeous, funny, bad ass that she is (click on this photo to watch her video)...

I'm so proud of her! I'm also sure I'm driving her crazy by taking her picture (but I keep telling her when we're old and gray she'll be glad I documented things so well). Kim watching Kim...

Gotta' say that for this stay at home Mama excitement like this doesn't come along very often. Thanks Kimmi for letting us all be a little part of your adventure. This is going to be awesome!

Gone Country

My parents were in town for a few days this past weekend. They have a new hobby, thanks to their good buddies Laynce and Leslie, they've taken up two stepping. It's pretty cute if you ask me. So since they just so happened to be celebrating their 35th wedding anniversary we all put on our boots and headed to the famous Floore's Country Store...

35 years is definitely a reason to celebrate...

We were all happy to share the occasion with them...

I love my parents and am so thankful for the love that they have poured into my life. I've never appreciated them more. I also have to give a little "Happy Birthday" shout out to my lil' brother who was born on their anniversary 27 years ago...

This week I'm enjoying the everyday things that I sometimes overlook like sweet sleeping babies...

And cheerios for breakfast...

Oh and just because I'm about to pop the next time I post I predict I will have some very big news. BIG, HUGE, I mean REALLY HUGE!! (Are you curious yet??) Stay tuned...

A Week of Saturdays

Ahhhhh the dreaded "get back in the routine after the holidays week" is here! This is a little hard to swallow because we spent the entire week after Christmas treating everyday like it was a Saturday. There was a lot of playing with new gifts going on (the girls mastering the new wii)...

And plenty of make believe (these little animals were "babies" for the day complete with pacifiers and bottles)...

I love the little glimpses of two girls playing happily together with no fighting or hitting...

Sometimes it really is the little things in life that matter most...

We spent sunny days outside (the weather here has been AMAZING) which meant an unplanned trip to The Kiddie Park was just what the doctor ordered...

Emerson is finally old enough to hop on all the rides. She is a big fan of the carousel (I couldn't pick a favorite)...

We also took the opportunity to meet Grandad at the park as he was passing through town...

Grandad's are the best swing pushers...

That is until you learn to "swing" yourself...

After weeks like this one where things like routines, laundry, blogs and taking down the Christmas decor are gladly exchanged for happy little girls...

I'm reminded that sometimes we need a little "overdose" in the family fun department...

It does a body good!

Twenty Twelve

We had visions of spending our New Year's Eve out on the town (what is it about New Year's that brings out the inner party animal in people?). No big plans developed and so we had elected to save our baby sitting money and spend the evening at home.

Nate (whose New Year's resolutions include running a half marathon) came in from a jog yesterday afternoon and announced that the girls (that would be Carter, Emme and I) should get ready we were all going to dinner. Apparently he had decided we should start a new tradition with them of a special New Year's Eve dinner where we would discuss the year ahead and encourage Carter to maybe make a resolution or two...

Can I just say I love him for spur of the moment decisions like this. The obvious reason is I don't have to cook or come up with dinner. The more hidden one is I think it reminds me of my childhood. My dad was really good at making vacations and occasions feel special and I think that my heart remembers those moments well.

So the girls in our family got just a little more fancy (for the little girls that meant dresses for me it meant simply grabbing a shower because I'd been cleaning house all day). Then the fab four headed out to dinner...

One thing is for sure the year twenty twelve will be a cuter place with these two munchkins in it...

Nate kept Carter in the dark about his restaurant of choice but as we pulled into the Cheesecake Factory she said, "I KNEW IT!!" I think she has begun to associate that place with "special occasions" and I love that. A round of drinks later we were all ready to toast the year ahead...

We had a wonderful dinner. Just being honest we don't take the girls to "sit down" restaurants too often. The thought of a long wait for food can be a little intimidating. We were pleasantly surprised at how well they did and my heart smiled as Emme said thank you every time someone came by our table (whether they were dropping off water, bread or just a little plate of butter) I love that kid.

Life can be full of routine and has plenty of everyday so why not take every opportunity to celebrate...

It was one of the best kick offs to the New Year I've had in quite some time. Topped off perfectly with a good laugh and a little time spent with two of our favorite people Kim and Bryan. I think the year ahead will be an unforgettable one. Welcome 2012!

Santa Sister

Their new favorite game is "playing Santa". Emme pays her sisters lap a visit and they discuss what they want for Christmas...

It's about as close as you can get to the real thing...

This sweet Santa seems to have a good effect on Emme...

I'm happy to report there were no tears shed on this visit...

These girls sure do make Christmas merry...

Merry Christmas Eve! Don't forget the milk and cookies and that you're never too old for a little visit with St. Nick...

Baby Reindeer

Okay so technically they are goats. But, being that it's Christmas and all we'll go with the fact that they look a lot like deer and keep things festive. We've had a few unexpected guests hanging around this week...

Aunt Kimmi has been playing Mama to a couple of baby goats and the girls are in heaven...

By the looks of things these little reindeer are going to make great additions to Santa's sleigh one day...

While we're on the subject of reindeer Carter had her class party Tuesday. She was sporting her own little antlers...

And had a little create your own reindeer food buffet that was really cute...

She had worked very hard on signing her name for a little treat to give each of her classmates...

This little elf has had a really great first half of the year in Kindergarten...

Speaking of elves Emme has taken quite a liking to "baby Jingle"....

This has been the year Carter put 2 and 2 together and the Elf on the Shelf gig was up! We were going to let her help play "elf" for Emme but all little Emerson wants is to hold "baby Jingle". Maybe next year Jingle will return in full force (smile).

We are enjoying all the togetherness that comes with the holidays. I hope you have a wonderful Christmas!

Caroling Daisies

Christmas is full of busy moments. I'll be the first to admit things can get a little hectic. Trying to pull off all the "giving" not to mention traveling, partying, etc. can keep things hopping at a pretty good pace.

This morning I had one of those unexpected little moments that reminded me why I love Christmas so much. We had been packing to leave town and took a quick break to meet up with Carter's Daisy Troop at a local elderly home. I had a billion other to do's on my mind but the minute we walked in the door I was struck by the moment.

A sweet room full of smiling people expectantly waiting for these precious little girls to "perform". It didn't take me long to realize that this might very well be the highlight of their Christmas...

They were an attentive audience. Quietly listening to sweet little voices. Tiny smiling faces singing just for them...

I was struck by the simplicity of the moment. The lack of pomp that surrounded the circumstance and yet is was quite a profound one for me. Watching as many of these elderly Alzheimer patients sang quietly along to the carols I remembered Christmas is all about the giving...

I am so very grateful for this "silent" moment that touched my heart and will stick with me for quite some time.

Last Thursday we rounded up our friends for a little Christmas cheer. I spent the day doing some of my favorite things. First things first a little party favor assembly. Lucky for me my assistant was happy to work for marshmallows...

I was tickled pink with the finished result (note to all the DIY'ers out there the containers I found were in the dollar section at Target and the rest is pretty self explanatory)...

I also added a little bit of "MERRY" to my dining room with banner made of felt...

At 7 o'clock our guests arrived. They had been instructed to wear their ugliest Christmas sweaters (the tackier the better) and they did not disappoint. It was a delightful evening with a rousing game of White Elephant and a photo booth to capture all the smiles...

It was the perfect way to kick off our Christmas Vacation! Thanks again to my mama who graciously took the girls so we could have a little fun and wrap up our shopping list. Our girls always love spending a couple of days at Roxi's...

We are all wrapped up and ready for Christmas (well almost...can you guess what everyone is getting?!)
